You WILL get dirty.” That’s the friendly warning from Rik Carr, owner of The Home of Low & Slow. It’s an 80-seater barbecue joint and bar that promises a classic American barbecue menu of “big drippy wings”, pulled pork sliders and brisket, as well as a rotating selection of SA craft beers on tap.
Rik previously owned Adelaide Hills Beef and was a part-owner of Ellis Butchers in McLaren Vale.
“I was a butcher for over five years, but I got tired of selling mincemeat and chicken breast schnitzels,” he says.
“My passion led me towards the barbecuing scene, competing and sponsoring teams. I’ve always had in mind that I wanted to have a concept store where you can buy your meat, have a beer and taste some barbecued meats.
“I’ve got a meat display set up here now – and all the rubs and sauces are getting imported. I still sponsor barbecue guys, and now I’m able to supply all the things they need for competitions.”
